“The Denzel version is better” can probably be applied to any project he’s ever been in.

Except Highest 2 Lowest.

I didn't see Highest 2 Lowest, but didn't hear anything good about it. What happened there?

Spike let his composer go ham on the light jazz soundtrack. And also suck all the tension from McBain’s novel and Kurosawa’s adaptation. It kind of bizarre from an academic perspective just how lifeless it feels.

Nothing goes together like light jazz and contemporary New York. I heard drill rappers are starting to incorporate it into their tracks.

Huge shoutout to Scott Glenn

Well, also, the second adaptation is the best because of Denzel. I actually don't really like the movie (and I guess I just don't really care for this story) but man, Denzel is seven levels of awesome in such an ugly, inane movie, you feel for him, you cheer for him, he's your superhero.

Also, the second film is docked for the fact that Mickey Rourke gets beheaded by a samurai sword OFF SCREEN. Come ON.

Oh, of course, that goes without saying. He’s the greatest.

Just finished the show and I think you were far to kind. It’s really just not very good. The two best characters, in the sense that you actually connect and relate and care what happens to them are Melo(Alice Braga) and Livro(Jefferson Baptista). It’s not a very good show, it never really had a chance with anyone who has seen the Denzel version.
